In this guide, we’ll show you how to create an iron helmet. What you’ll need:
- A Crafting table.
- A Furnace.
- A Stone pickaxe.
- Five iron ingots.
Step 1 – Mine some iron
0:18 – Using a stone pickaxe, mine five pieces of iron ore. You can generally find mineral veins in caves or mines.

Step 2 – Smelt the iron ore
0:34 – Place the iron ore in your furnace to smelt it into iron ingots. You can use different fuel sources to power your furnace, we use logs since they’re easy to acquire.

Step 3 – Place the iron ingots
0:48 – Now, place an iron ingot in the middle-left, top-left, top-middle, top-right, and middle-right cells of the crafting grid.
(You can look at your numpad, if you have one, and the placement on the crafting grid would correspond to the “4”, “7”, “8”, “9”, and “6” keys, which we can refer to as cells 4, 7, 8, 9, and 6.)

Step 4 (Optional) – Test it out
An iron helmet. When you started calling yourself a metalhead this wasn’t exactly what you meant. But hey, no complaints. This is a pretty good helmet.

Onwards, then! To the nearest mosh pit!
