In this guide, we’ll show you how to create an iron shovel. What you’ll need:
- A crafting table.
- A furnace.
- Two sticks.
- A stone pickaxe.
- An iron ingot.
Step 1 – Gather logs
Collect a few logs by punching out a tree (any kind of tree will do).

Step 2 – Create planks
Using a crafting table, place the logs in any single cell of the grid to create planks in the output box.

Step 3 – Create sticks
Now, place two planks in the center column of the crafting grid, one in each of the bottom and middle cells of your crafting table to create sticks.
(You can look at your numpad, if you have one, and the placement on the crafting grid would correspond to the “2” and “5” keys, which we can refer to as cell 2 and cell 5.)

Step 4 – Mine some iron
0:26 – Using a stone pickaxe, mine one piece of iron ore. You can generally find iron in caves or mines.

Step 5 – Smelt the iron
0:35 – Place the iron in your furnace to smelt it into iron ingots. You can use the logs you gathered as fuel.

Step 6 – Place the sticks
0:46 – Then place two sticks in the center column of the crafting grid, one in each of the bottom and middle cells of your crafting table.
(These would be cells 2 and 5.)

Step 7 – Place the iron ingot
0:51 – Now, place an iron ingot in the top-middle cell of the crafting grid.
(This would be cell 8. )

Step 8 (Optional) – Contemplate a career in shovel racing
You can imagine it now. The wind in your face. The roar of the crowd as you hurtle past, carving a path in the snow as you race down the mountainside on your trusty iron shovel.
And the grin on your face turns into a smile, like the Sun rising across the mountain range, as you approach the finish line in yet another podium finish.

You are speed.
